Loan Repayment Program for Mental Health Professionals

The deadline is approaching to apply for the Loan Repayment Program for Mental Health Professionals! The 84th Texas Legislature authorized the Loan Repayment Program for Mental Health Professionals to encourage certain mental health professionals to provide services in designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas (MHPSAs). A total of $2.125 million was appropriated for the program for the FY 2016-2017 biennium.

Eligible practice specialties include advance practice nurses who are board certified in psychiatric or mental health nursing, licensed professional counselors, and licensed clinical social workers.

Applicants must agree to provide five consecutive years of service in an eligible area, with the understanding that they will be released from the agreement if funding for continued loan repayment is not appropriated. The deadline is June 30, 2017. Learn more about the program here.
